Trumpet player Jake Henry  is  part of a new generation of New York improvisers and composers. He plays with fire; his angular melodies combining with fast burs of air. Henry artfully blends free melody and extended techniques with complexly beautiful composition. Jake is an active performer, composer and improviser on Brooklyn's young jazz and avantgarde scenes.  He was raised in Toronto, Ontario, playing both guitar and trumpet before ultimately switching to the trumpet in 2003.

Jake holds a B.Mus. from McGill University in Montreal and an M.A. from the City College of New York CUNY in New York City.  He is an alumni of Dave Douglas' workshop in Jazz and Creative Music at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts, having attended twice, in 2006 and 2010.
